On Thursday, January 24, 2019, Sheriff Mike Williams was joined by members of the Northeast Florida Human Trafficking Coalition along with state and local criminal justice officials to reaffirm their commitment to raising awareness about the issue of slavery and human trafficking locally and throughout the country.
Locally, in 2018, 38 victims were identified and/or rescued, three of those were juveniles. This resulted in 36 Human Trafficking related arrests with four federal indictments.
"These cases highlight what can be accomplished with effective investigations and prosecution, but as with all crime, our continued education of the public and emphasizing the need for our community to call us with their tips and suspicions is key," said Sheriff Mike Williams.
During the news conference the Sheriff reminded citizens that we are here 24-hours a day to help. If you think someone is a victim of human trafficking, please call us at 904.630.0500, email JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org or call Crime Stoppers at 1.866.845.TIPS.
