On Monday, April 8, 2019 Sheriff Mike Williams joined Mayor Lenny Curry, members of the Mayor’s Victim Assistance Advisory Council (VAAC) and others in the City Hall Atrium to kick-off National Crime Victims’ Rights Week in Jacksonville.
This annual week of remembrance provides an opportunity to raise awareness about services and programs that are in place to not only protect victims, but to also help them and those they leave behind. This week is also a reminder that we must all work together to support victims throughout their interactions with the criminal justice system.
“While we don’t want more people to fall victim to a crime,
WE WANT all victims to know that they are not alone.
WE WANT them to know we are here for them and that it will get better,” said Sheriff Mike Williams, “
WE WANT victims to report the crime, so we can get the perpetrator off of our streets so they do not victimize anyone else. And most importantly, to make sure that every victim knows that there are resources available to help them.”
For the men and women at the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office one victim is too many and we will continue to investigate these crimes and provide support to victims and their families.
If you are a victim and would like to speak directly with one of the Victim Services Coordinators (Victims’ Advocates) at the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office please call 904.630.1764.
