Each year the second full week of April is designated as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week to recognize the men and women who serve as a vital part of JSO’s day-to-day operations.
Some people call them Emergency Operators; some call them Police Emergency Communications Officers; we just think of them as the “lifeline between people in need and our first responders.”
They are there to answer the call, day and night, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
In 2018, 1,427,079 calls were received in Jacksonville’s 9-1-1 Center. Of that number, 733,762 were received via the Emergency 9-1-1 line, and 693,317 were received on the non-emergency number, 630.0500.
Police Emergency Communications Officer (PECO) Patricia Robinson was selected by her peers to receive JSO’s “Telecommunicator of the Year” award for her dedication to her job and overall work ethic. PECO Chevy Myles was named JSO’s “Training Officer of the Year” for her knowledge, patience and dedication to enhance the skills of new employees in this field. Robinson and Myles were recognized at JSO’s April 2019 Meritorious Awards Ceremony on Thursday, April 18, 2019.
Please help us in thanking all of our Dispatchers and 9-1-1 Call Takers! We appreciate all that they do for us at the JSO and for our community.
