The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office would like to remind everyone that Daylight Saving Time (DST) ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2019. This is when we "fall back" one hour.
Citizens are also reminded that the beginning of DST (in the Spring) and the end of DST (in the Fall) are times of the year to replace the batteries in smoke detectors and test them.
Now that it is darker earlier in the evening, and the holiday season is approaching, here are a few safety tips to keep in mind:
- Be mindful of your surroundings
- Lock car doors / don't leave your valuables in the car - Remember to do the 9 p.m. Routine!
- Use timers on lights - Don't forget to update the time on existing timers
- If shopping after daylight hours, park and walk in lighted areas. Don't hesitate to ask security to walk you to your car, if you are not comfortable.
