Governor Ron DeSantis declared Friday, February 5, 2021 as “Crossing Guard Appreciation Day” in Florida.
On Friday morning, as part of “Crossing Guard Appreciation Day” in Florida, JSO's Community Engagement Officers recognized Deborah Baker (top photo) for her 22 years of service and Gloria Scruggs (bottom right photo) for her 13 years of service as a school crossing guard in the community.
Crossing Guards are part-time employees who work two hours each day (one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon) and are assigned to roadways near elementary schools throughout the city.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office currently has 45 School Crossing Guard openings in Jacksonville.
