The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announces high visibility enforcement details funded through a $111,415.68 contract from the Institute of Police Technology and Management (IPTM) in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
This contract is specifically designed to pay for overtime traffic deployments focused on improving bicyclist and pedestrian safety.
Starting Tuesday, December 10, 2024, through mid-May 2025, JSO Officers will conduct high visibility enforcement details in high traffic areas throughout Duval County. The goal of this enforcement effort is to increase awareness and compliance with traffic laws that protect the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists.
Enforcement efforts will focus primarily on educating drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists. However, violations may result in warnings or citations depending on the circumstances.
Remember:
- Bicycles are considered vehicles, so those using this mode of transportation should know and obey traffic laws.
- Bicycles operated between sunset, and sunrise must be equipped with front and rear lights.
- Pedestrians and cyclists should wear reflective clothing at night so that they are visible to drivers.
- Drivers are reminded to be aware of pedestrians and bicyclists as they operate vehicles throughout the city.
- As always, be alert and share the road safely.
