Jacksonville Records Lowest Murders in 20+ Years
January 10, 2025
Jacksonville recorded 59 murders in 2024, the fewest since at least 1995. This figure is less than half the number of murders reported in 2023.

Sheriff Waters attributes this historic drop to the hard work of the men and women of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and the collaboration with the community and a close partnership with the State Attorney’s Office. JSO’s Group Violence Intervention strategy, which combines detectives, advanced technology, and community resources, has proven to be highly effective.

One murder is one too many. However, this significant reduction is a promising step as the men and women of JSO continue striving to make Jacksonville a safer place to live, work, and visit.
