Approaching Weather System: Be Aware and Prepare!
January 08, 2024
The National Weather Service has forecasted severe weather in our community tomorrow, Tuesday, January 9, 2024. The information thus far includes, but may not be limited to, high winds and heavy rains with the potential for hail, localized flooding, and isolated tornadoes.

Due to this pending storm system, it has been announced by Mayor Deegan that all City of Jacksonville government offices will be closed to the public on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Non-essential government employees will work from home. All City parks and recreation facilities will also be closed, along with Duval County Public Schools.

Members of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, to include the Patrol Division and the Communications Center will continue to conduct business as usual as the storm approaches and threatens our community. Citizens may call the non-emergency number at 904.630.0500 for police service and are reminded to call 9-1-1 (TTY services available) if the situation constitutes an emergency.

Per Jail Administration: On-site video visitation and public access to First Appearance court at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility has been canceled for Tuesday, January 9, 2024, due to the possibility of adverse weather conditions. Normal operations will resume on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.

The District 5 Sheriff's Watch Meeting for Sectors Q, R and S, has been postponed and rescheduled for next Tuesday, January 16, 2024. More information to follow.

There are no scheduled road or bridge closures at this time as a result of the impending weather. If and when necessary and as the storm dictates, roadways and bridges may close as a safety measure to the motoring public.

Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant as the storm approaches and be prepared to receive critical severe weather alerts and notifications. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office will continue to utilize its social media platforms to disseminate important information and citizens can register for ALERTJAX notifications at http://JaxReady.com/ALERTJAX
