During the evening of Tuesday, April 15, 2025, survivors, colleagues, and elected officials gathered at the Fallen Officers Memorial Wall in downtown Jacksonville, Florida, to pay tribute to the law enforcement professionals who made the ultimate sacrifice in service for this
community.
This year, 66 officers were remembered as Corrections Officer Bradford "Brad" McNew's name was etched into the wall. On Saturday, October 12, 2024, McNew was murdered while selflessly serving and protecting our community.
"He wasn’t in uniform, but he answered the call and did not hesitate to intervene when he saw someone in need, an act that ultimately cost him his life," said Sheriff T.K. Waters, "And, for that, Officer McNew will always stand in my mind as an ultimate public servant."
During his address, Sheriff Waters reflected on the city's history and the sacrifices of the fallen and their families. The annual service also included a candlelight vigil and speeches from Mayor Donna Deegan and City Council President Randy White, along with a poem reading by JSO Director Mark Romano.
