JSO Releases Critical Incident Briefing for the Officer-Involved Shooting on March 11th
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office released details and video from an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, in the Moose Road area located on the city’s Northside. The incident details below are preliminary and may evolve as the investigation
continues.
In the evening hours, officers were called to a residence after the suspect, Tiffany Leigh, and her husband got into an argument. Leigh’s husband called to report she was armed. When officers arrived on scene, Leigh got up from the bench she had been sitting on and began walking toward the officers with the firearm in her hand. Officers instructed Leigh to drop the gun numerous times, but she refused to comply. Instead, she shot at the officers multiple times, forcing the officers to return fire. As a result, Leigh was struck by gunfire, fell to the ground and dropped the firearm. Once safely in police custody, officers called for rescue and began providing emergency medical care to Leigh. She was subsequently transported to an area hospital for treatment of her gunshot wounds.
The State Attorney’s Office will independently review the incident to assess the legality of the officers’ actions. Once that is complete, JSO will conduct an internal review to ensure the officers acted within policy. Then, a Response to Resistance Board will convene, and the findings will be submitted to the Sheriff for final review. JSO is releasing this in the interest of transparency. This continues to be an active investigation, and conclusions on the incident remain pending.
