Seventh Contract Awarded to JSO to Continue Focus on Bicyclist and Pedestrian Safety
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announces High Visibility Enforcement details funded through a $57,096 contract from the University of North Florida in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
This contract is specifically designed to pay for overtime traffic deployments focused on improving bicyclist and pedestrian safety.
Starting Monday, February 22, 2021 through mid-May, JSO Officers will conduct High Visibility Enforcement details in high traffic areas throughout Duval County. The goal of this enforcement effort is to increase awareness of and compliance with traffic laws that protect the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists.
Enforcement efforts will focus primarily on educating drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists. However, violations may result in warnings or citations depending on the circumstances.
Remember:
- Bicycles are considered vehicles, so those using this mode of transportation should know and obey traffic laws.
- Bicycles operated between sunset and sunrise must be equipped with front and rear lights.
- Pedestrians and cyclists should wear reflective clothing at night so that they are visible to drivers.
- As always, be alert and share the road safely.
