Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared March as Florida Bicycle Month encouraging the use of bicycles and the importance of roadway safety.
Whether it is for recreation or a mode of transportation, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is committed to working with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to help reduce traffic crashes in Duval County.
JSO is actively engaged in traffic deployments focused on increasing bicyclist and pedestrian safety as part of a contract from the University of North Florida in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). The High Visibility Enforcement details, now in its fifth week, will go through mid-May in high traffic areas throughout Duval County. The goal of the enforcement effort is to increase awareness of and compliance with traffic laws that protect the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists.
Remember:
- Bicycles are considered vehicles, so those using this mode of transportation should know and obey traffic laws.
- Bicycles operated between sunset and sunrise must be equipped with front and rear lights.
- Pedestrians and cyclists should wear reflective clothing at night so that they are visible to drivers.
- As always, be alert and share the road safely.
