Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has declared March Florida Bicycle Month encouraging the use of bicycles and the importance of roadway safety.
Whether it is for recreation or a mode of transportation, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is committed to working with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to help reduce traffic crashes in Duval County.
JSO is actively engaged in traffic deployments focused on increasing bicyclist and pedestrian safety as part of a grant from the Florida Department of Transportation in conjunction with the Institute of Police Technology and Management (IPTM). The deployments, now in its fifth week, will go through mid-May in four high traffic areas prone to motor vehicle crashes involving pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcycles, with the goal of reducing crashes and fatalities.
Those locations are:
- Beach Boulevard from St. Johns Bluff Road to Parental Home Road
- 103rd Street from Firestone Road to Chafee Road
- University Blvd W. from St. Augustine Road to Beach Boulevard
- Edgewood Avenue N./Cassat Avenue from Commonwealth Avenue to Plymouth Street
