As the men and women of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office continue to seek justice for crime victims, both old and new, and their loved ones, another "Cold Case Spotlight" was released this past weekend.
This monthly feature spotlights a murder that the Sheriff's Office has classified as a cold case. The hope is that this will lead to the identity of a suspect(s) and in turn help bring some closure to those impacted by these senseless crimes.
This month’s spotlight is on
Jessica Beth Wolford (white female, 25 years-old). Jessica’s body was discovered on an early Sunday morning, September 14, 2014 in an open area next to a church in the 3500 block of Chase Avenue. Following an investigation by the Medical Examiner’s Office, Jessica’s death was ruled a homicide as a result of a gunshot wound.
Members of JSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene Units responded to the scene where the investigation began. Witnesses in the area recalled hearing gunfire at around 5 a.m. and observed an individual running from the area immediately after. The subject seen was described as a black male, believed to be in his 40s wearing a dirty white t-shirt and blue jeans. To-date, detectives have been unable to identify this subject and the available evidence has garnered no clues as to who may have shot and killed Jessica.
The attached pictures are those of Jessica approximately two months prior to her death and the area in which Jessica’s body was discovered.
