Halloween is two weeks away and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office reminds you to take some simple precautions to help you enjoy the holiday.
Safety First
- Check reliable websites, such as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, to see where registered offenders / predators live.
- Parents or trusted adults should accompany children and youth during trick-or-treating
Drivers
- Slow down and be on alert while driving through residential neighborhoods
- Adults going to a party - Make a plan, have a designated driver
For Great Visibility
- Add reflective tape to costumes and trick-or-treat bags
- Carry a flashlight while out trick-or-treating
Trick-or-Treaters
- Stay in a group
- Only trick-or-treat at homes that have a porch light on
- Do not go into a stranger's home or get in their car
After Trick-or-Treating
- Examine candy to make sure it has not been tampered with
- Keep your pets safe - place candy, especially chocolate, out of reach or smell
